Louisville, KY - Interapt Announces Plans to Train and Hire 50 Developers - As many of our readers can likely attest, it's not always easy to hire new tech talent in Southeastern cities. Interapt, a Louisville tech outfit, is trying a new solution.
The company has begun a campaign that will see them put as many as 50 people through a two-phase, 9-month internship. Those that complete it will become full members of the Interapt team. It's an interesting spin on a big problem - we'll keep you updated on any new developments.
New Orleans, LA - Idea Village Founder Tim Williamson Named New President of NOLA Media Group - One of the pillars of the New Orleans startup community is making a pivot. Tim Williamson, one of the founders of local entrepreneurial support organization Idea Village, has been tapped to become the next president of the NOLA Media Group, the digital media company behind NOLA.com. Stepping in as acting Idea Village CEO is COO Emily Madero.
Shreveport, LA - Angel Investors Congregate at Louisiana Startup Prize - The final qualifying event for his year's Louisiana Startup Prize had some interesting judges. The leaders of the region's numerous angel networks - representing some 300 investors - gathered to help vet pitching companies.
As a sidebar, the event also coincides with the birth of a new angel network. The Acadiana Angels have officially formed, partnered with the NO/LA Angel Network, and are now co-vetting potential investments. Big thanks to Innov8 Acadiana for giving us the scoop.
Atlanta, GA - Tech VC Firm Opens New Branch in Atlanta - Menlo Park's Centerview Capital Management Technology is bound for Buckhead. The $200M Californian fund represents a promising new source of both capital and entrepreneurial expertise for Georgian tech companies, and has already invested in Atlanta startup SecureWorks. The new office will be helmed by Centerview veteran and founding partner David Dorman.
Dania Beach, FL - Magic Leap Forms Alliance with Lucasfilm - Apologies for what must seem like the latest installment in our running coverage of Magic Leap, but we couldn't not include this. The mixed-reality startup has secured a strategic partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd., the studio behind Star Wars.
The net result: when Leap manages to ship those glasses they've been talking about, you'll be able to interact with virtual versions of Star Wars characters (the demo video showed C-3PO and R2D2 exploring a user's house). We're looking forward to this.
