New Orleans, LA - Idea Village Opens Applications for 2017 Accelerator ProgramsJuly 1 (today) marks the kickoff of Idea Village's entrepreneurial season in New Orleans. In more practical terms, this means that they've opened applications to their three primary acclerator programs: IDEAx, DIGITALMEDIAx, and ENERGYx. Each of the three take five cohort companies through a 12-week program that culminates in a demo day. Young startups are eligible and encouraged to apply.

New Orleans, LA - TOPXIGHT LA Tech Incubator Announced - New Orleans capital management firm Valmiki 504 has partnered with TOPXIGHT, a New York-based tech company (both Valmiki and TOPXIGHT are helmed by Tulane grads), to create TOPXIGHT LA, an incubator focusing on early-stage tech companies. Arun Lakhotia, a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, will head the project. We'll keep you updated on the program's timing, scope, and focus as we learn more. 

Richmond, VA - 2016 Virginia Velocity Tour Set for September - One week, five stops, and $125K up for grabs. That's the premise of the Virginia Velocity Tour, a travelling startup competition that will award five pitch competition winners with $25K apiece. The tour kicks off in Roanoke on September 19 - Virginia startups can apply to pitch on the tour's website

Birmingham, AL - Shipt Sets a New High-Water Mark in Alabama with $20M RoundFood delivery startup Shipt has raised a landmark round. Several investors, including New Yorks' Greycroft Partners and SF-based e.ventures have contributed $20M to fund Shipt's continued expansion into a hotly contested market. Founded in 2014 by Bill Smith, Shipt has set an entirely new standard for fundraising in Alabama, and has made it clear that Birmingham is a Southern tech hub worth watching.

Atlanta, GA - First Cohort of Atlanta Techstars Revealed - Techstars Atlanta has a start date and an inaugural cohort. The 10 companies selected will be residing in Atlanta for 90 days after the accelerator's August 1 kickoff. The cohort itself is drawn from both US and international cities, and includes Southern startups Sequr, Bark,LaaSer, and Real Meal Delivery

Asheville, NC - New Startup Campus Opens Shop in Asheville - Asheville's budding startup ecosystem is about to see its first true startup hub. Hatch is a coworking space, but also a natural congregation point for the city's most promising startups. Jon Jones, Hatch Co-Founder and President of Asheville startupAnthroware, has hopes that the space will eventually become a crucial networking catalyst for local entrepreneurs and potential mentors.
